Intermountain Gas Company
introduces a new way to read your meter . . . .
|
Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
|
 |
It’s a new
method of remotely reading meters using advanced communications
technology. This technology allows us to read your meter from a
mobile meter reading vehicle once a month, instead of the manual
read taken by a meter reader. |
 |
|
Installation on your meter
|
|
- The installations
of the ERT (encoder receiver transmitter) were completed
in the spring of 2003.
- In most areas of our service
territory, Intermountain Gas Company personnel or an authorized contractor
attached a small transmitting device (ERT) to your existing meter.
|
How does AMR work?
- In most areas, our mobile meter reading vehicle will signal the ERT from the street to transmit your monthly usage.
- The ERT encodes the information and transmits it to our mobile meter reading vehicle using a low-level radio frequency.
- The ERT will not interfere with television, radio, personal computers, home security systems, garage door openers, pacemakers and other electronic equipment, due to the low level frequency.
|
Benefits of AMR:
It
eliminates the need for a meter reader to access your meter each
month, with only an occasional visit for required maintenance.
- It increases speed and accuracy
of taking meter readings & improves billing efficiency.
- Minimizes the situations that could cause us to estimate your meter read on any given month.
- The dials on your meter are
visible, so those of you who like to verify your meter read can
continue
to do so.
Be sure to keep the area around
your meter free from debris and objects.
